The Lunar Orbiter Laser Altimeter (LOLA) will produce a high-resolution global topographic model and geodetic framework that enables precise targeting, safe landing, and surface mobility to carry out exploratory activities. LOLA will characterize the polar illumination environment and image permanently shadowed polar regions of the Moon to identify possible locations of surface ice crystals in shadowed polar craters.

Additional information and resources:
In addition to access to the LOLA archive, ODE offers both individual derived products and the LOLA RDR Query tool (See About Data Databases and LOLA RDR Query Tool) found under the Tab tools. LOLA RDR derived products are organized as either frames with up to 5 measurements or “points” per frame. There are several types of derived products:
-
Frame per row Formatted CSV Table. A formatted CSV table can be viewed with a standard text editor with each frame found in a row and the frame data fields in columns. The CSV file can also be viewed using spreadsheet tools such as Excel.
-
Point per row CSV with all associated point and frame data
-
Simple Topography CSV file listing location, time, and topography value
-
Binned Image
